{"id":28786,"date":"2021-01-15T01:21:28","date_gmt":"2021-01-14T14:21:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com.au\/blog\/transatlantic-cable-podcast-182\/28786\/"},"modified":"2021-01-15T01:21:28","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T14:21:28","slug":"transatlantic-cable-podcast-182","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com.au\/blog\/transatlantic-cable-podcast-182\/28786\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaspersky Transatlantic Cable podcast, episode 182"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the 182<sup>nd<\/sup> edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com\/blog\/?s=podcast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Kaspersky <em>Transatlantic Cable<\/em> podcast<\/a>, Dave and I tackle the biggest story of 2021 so far: the ramifications of the insurrection at the US Capitol, which include Twitter bans and plenty more.<\/p>\n<p>To kick off the podcast, we talk about an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/capitol-attacks-cybersecurity-fallout-stolen-laptops-lost-data-and-possible-espionage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">op-ed on ZDNet<\/a> about the cybersecurity fallout of last week\u2019s storming of the Capitol. (I am pretty sure everyone knows about the event, but you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2021\/politics\/trump-insurrection-capitol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">check out more here<\/a>.) Mainstream news outlets have not provided much insight into the cyberimpact of it all. During the occupation, rioters had physical access to computers, and they even stole a few. The ZDNet piece goes down some paths we won\u2019t follow, but it also speaks to important cybersecurity considerations.<\/p>\n<p>Following that, we move on to Parler, from its ban to its takedown. Somewhere in that timeline, hackers downloaded all of the public data from the platform \u2014 even things believed to be deleted. This will be an interesting story to keep an eye on, and not only for the doxing that is sure to come.<\/p>\n<p>Sticking with this topic, we look at Twitter\u2019s ban of many accounts, including the US president\u2019s account and those of about 70K QAnon members.
